The two types of spreaders used for granular applications, drop spreaders and broadcast spreaders. Drop spreaders can be useful on smaller turf areas because they drop the fertilizer straight down in a path slightly larger than the spreader. Broadcast spreaders toss the fertilizer up to a 10′ radius with a wheel that turns underneath to extend the throw wider than the spreader width. The first thing that we suggest is get rid of the drop spreader and go buy a broadcast spreader. It’s almost impossible to get decent even coverage with a drop spreader.

Read the label on your Lesco fertilizer bag. It gives you the setting for your spreader. Turn the dial on top of your spreader so the arrow points at the number needed and thats it.

The best method of application is to roll the spreader with half the amount needed for your lawn size in one direction back and forth in rows. Then apply the remaining half needed in rows perpendicular to the first application. This gives you even coverage without gaps or overlaps, which can leave brown spots or burnt spots on your lawn.
